The Furled Finger

Tarnished's golden summon-mark, the canon's coded multiplayer artifact

'With a Tarnished's Furled Finger, you can leave a gold summon sign. This sign will appear in other players' worlds and allow them to summon you as a Furled Finger for cooperative multiplayer.' The Furled Finger is the canon's diegetic coding of cooperative multiplayer. A Tarnished who carries the Finger leaves a golden summon-sign on the ground at the entrance to a boss arena ; another Tarnished, in another world, may read the sign and summon the original as a co-op ally. The Tarnished arrives in the host's world as a Furled Finger, the canonical title of the role, and fights beside the host until the boss is defeated.

'A small, clouded mirror that reflects an image of a golden figure. Makes the bearer take on the appearance of a Host of Fingers. One of the ritual implements created by the Tarnished to deceive invaders.' The Furled Finger's adversary is the Recusant Finger : the snake-scaled invasion-finger of Volcano Manor that brings a hostile Tarnished into the host's world. The Trick-Mirror, a clouded glass that disguises the bearer as a Host, is the canon's most economically described counter-measure : a ritual implement made by Tarnished to deceive invaders. The whole multiplayer system, Furled Finger summons, Recusant Finger invasions, Trick-Mirror disguises, is the canon's nested theology of co-presence : a Tarnished is, at any moment, also another Tarnished's ally and another Tarnished's enemy.
