Pidia, Carian Servant

Old retainer of Caria Manor, broken plaything of Preceptor Seluvis

'Servant Pidia's bell bearing, found upon his perished flesh. Offer to the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold to gain access to new items.' Pidia is the last living servant of Caria Manor in eastern Liurnia, a wizened, courteous old man who tends the abandoned house long after the Carian royal line has decayed. He speaks of his masters with reverence and offers the Tarnished sorceries of the manor's cellar. Behind him, the manor is overrun by the maker-puppets of Preceptor Seluvis, the doll-bodies into which Seluvis transfers human souls in pursuit of his philosophic ambition.

'Who's that? Who could it be? A new child, Mother's newborn. A new friend. A new playmate for us. Just watch, he'll be born again. Just watch, she'll be born again. Then Mother will hold him tight. Then Mother will hold her tight. He'll be so warm, warm and cosy.' If the Tarnished follows Seluvis's quest to its end, they return to Caria Manor to find Pidia gone, and a new doll added to the preceptor's collection, speaking in the chorus of all Seluvis's converted dead. The choir's first stanza is the welcome ; the third is laughter as it watches a fly being crushed. Pidia's voice is somewhere inside it, indistinguishable. The bell-bearing on his corpse is the only proof that the man whose soul now sings nursery rhymes was once distinct.
