On impact, the spear will burst into trails of lightning advancing forwards. The Dragonkin were born in the Eternal City, where they knew no true sky, nor true lightning. Instead, ice lightning was their weapon."

The Dragonkin Soldiers are the Eternal City's second great failure of imitation, and the older sibling of the Mimic Tear's experiment. Where the Silver Tears tried to imitate a lord, the Dragonkin tried to imitate a dragon. The Dragonscale Blade flavour text records the project's defeat without flinching : 'A weapon made by sharpening a Gravel Stone scale, thought to be the source of ancient dragon immortality, into an unclouded blade. Alas, the Dragonkin Soldiers never attained immortality, and perished as decrepit, pale imitations of their skyborn kin.' Their bodies, which the Tarnished encounters in the underground at Siofra and Lake of Rot, are draconic in shape but soft, sluggish, and aging.
What they did achieve is haunting in its own way. The Frozen Lightning Spear incantation description names what they invented for themselves : 'The Dragonkin were born in the Eternal City, where they knew no true sky, nor true lightning. Instead, ice lightning was their weapon.' Without sky, they synthesised storm. Their lightning is cold and blue and falls in patterns no sky-born dragon would recognise, a domestic, underground weather, made by creatures who never saw a real cloud. The two Dragonkin Soldiers in Lake of Rot and Nokstella are, between them, the last imitation of a faith they could not become.
