The Silver Tears

The Silver Tears are the Eternal City's strangest weapon: drops of liquid mercury, sentient enough to take human shape, used as scouts, soldiers, and assassin-doppelgängers in the lost civilizations of Nokron and Nokstella. Their original form is amorphous, a tear-drop, a slick puddle, a shimmer in a fountain, and they can replicate any shape they touch with enough delay to study. What a Silver Tear sheds is a hardened husk, an inert metal shell that the Eternal City's craftsmen hammer into a weapon.
'Mask fashioned from the corpse of a formless Silver Tear, supported by its hardened, shed husk. Greatly increases arcane to the detriment of physical attack power. To imitate the imitator is a cunning play indeed.' The Mimic Tear, the canon's named hero among Silver Tears, is the Spirit Ash that copies the Tarnished's exact form, same equipment, same spells, same fighting style, and fights for them. Its lore is the cleanest demonstration of Silver Tear sentience: the Mimic does not fight imitatively, it fights as if it were the Tarnished, with the Tarnished's own combat instincts. To stand beside one is to wonder, briefly, which of you is the original. The Tarnished can mask themselves with a Silver Tear's husk, in turn, and gain magic-power at the cost of physical strength.
