The Nox · People of the Eternal Cities
The Nox are the inhabitants of the Eternal Cities, Nokron, Nokstella, and Siofra, underground civilizations that predate and existed outside the Golden Order. Their defining tragedy: Marika cast them underground for an unspecified transgression, described in the Nox Flowing Sword description as "the Nox were banished by the Greater Will and were cursed to eternal darkness." The Nox Flowing Sword and Nox Flowing Hammer are their characteristic weapons, curved, fluid blades designed for an acrobatic fighting style. Nox Monk and Nox Swordstress are the two combat roles found in the Eternal Cities, both using distinctive stances and mercury-like weapon effects. Their most significant creation was the Silver Tear technology, liquid metal constructs capable of mimicking any form, used both as weapons and apparently as a form of artificial life. The Mimic Tear (perhaps the most famous of their creations) could copy a Tarnished's entire loadout. Crucially, the Nox had a different relationship with death and life than the Golden Order, their Ancestor Spirit rites and their underground ecosystem (Nokron's eternal rain, the glowing roots of Siofra) reflect a pre-Erdtree cosmology still functioning beneath the surface. Their sorceries (Night Sorceries, Night Comet, Night Maiden's Mist, Eternal Darkness) weaponize darkness rather than glintstone light.
