The Godskin Apostles are an ancient heretic order whose vocation was the slaying of gods. Their robes are sewn from the literal skins of demigods they killed in deep pre-history ; their bracelets are bone ; their faith is in the black flame of Destined Death, a flame that consumes even immortals because it carries Death itself. Their queen was the Dusk-Eyed Queen, the only known wielder of the Godslayer's Greatsword, defeated by Maliketh when Marika's Order finally cracked down on the apostles' raids. The apostles are now scattered, mostly in Volcano Manor and Farum Azula, surviving as quiet boss-encounters at the corners of the world.

But after their defeat by Maliketh, the Black Blade, the source of the black flame was taken from them.' The Godskin order's incantations, Black Flame, Black Flame Blade, Black Flame Tornado, survive in scrolls and are picked up by the Tarnished from the corpses of fallen apostles. The fact that the apostles still wield the black flame, even after Maliketh stole their source, is the canon's quiet observation : once a fire has touched something, it does not always need fuel. The Tarnished can become a Godslayer themselves by carrying the apostles' incantations into the late game and fighting Maliketh with his own kind of death.
