Commander Gaius

Messmer's friend, and Radahn's rival in gravity

"Black iron greaves made for Commander Gaius. A cruel joke, for he could not wear them. Riding atop the boar he called his other half, Gaius was in fact a warrior of albinauric extraction."

From Gaius's Greaves description

Gaius was both Messmer's friend and the leader of his men. The remembrance hewn for him puts the two side by side: both were as elder brothers to the lion, and both were cursed from birth. His own curse was his extraction. Riding atop the boar he called his other half, Gaius was in fact a warrior of albinauric extraction, and the black iron greaves forged for his armour set are described, flatly, as a cruel joke, for he could not wear them.

Before the crusade he was a student of gravity. Gaius was the most senior disciple of the same Alabaster Lord who taught Radahn and Gaea their gravitational technique, and Blades of Stone, the sorcery that pulls blade-like clumps of rock from the earth beneath a charging boar, is named in the game as the product of a friendly competition: Gaius and Radahn were good rivals in their youth. He carries a sword lance, a combination of greatsword and lance that shows its true potential astride a mount, which is where he always was. Gaius himself was never without his boar.
