◈ FOREIGN LANDThe Land of Reeds
The eastern country whose samurai walked into the Lands Between

The Land of Reeds
'A katana with a long single-edged curved blade. A unique weapon wielded by the samurai from the Land of Reeds. The blade, with its undulating design, boasts extraordinary sharpness, and its slash attacks cause blood loss.' The Land of Reeds is the canon's only confirmed foreign country with a culture detailed enough to walk back into. It is east of the Lands Between, across the Sea of Fog, and produces a samurai-tradition with its own martial discipline (Unsheathe, Seppuku), its own weapons (uchigatana, longbow, katana), and its own faith, separate from the Erdtree, separate from the Greater Will. The Tarnished can choose Samurai as a starting class, and that Tarnished is from the Land of Reeds, a long way from home.
'This Ash of War grants an armament the Blood affinity and the following skill: Seppuku: A forbidden technique used by swordsmen from the Land of Reeds. Plunge the blade into your stomach to stain it red, and increase attack power. Although forbidden, the technique was never forgotten, and was practiced in the shadows.' The Land of Reeds' Seppuku is the canon's only ash of war that explicitly damages the wielder for power : the canon's quiet acknowledgement that the foreign land has its own tragedy, its own martial sin, that the Lands Between's traditions cannot mirror. Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger, came from the Land of Reeds with her twinned naginata. She fell to Mohg. The Land of Reeds itself remains intact, presumably, beyond the fog. The canon's Tarnished may, in some endings, return there.

Follow up with a normal attack to perform a forward iaijutsu slash, or with a strong attack to perform a deflecting parry."
