◈ NPCLord Goldmask
Mute fundamentalist atop a viaduct, devisor of the Mending Rune of Perfect Order

Lord Goldmask
'A mask designed to resemble a blazing golden halo. Created and left behind by Lord Goldmask, a staunch pursuer of Golden Order fundamentalism. Strengthens Golden Order incantations. Its striking design represents both the brilliant inspiration that once shone upon him, and the vision of a ring that he will surely find at the end of his pursuit. "To you who seek to shine as I do, wear it well!"' Goldmask is the canon's silent theologian, a noble who renounced speech, finery, and disciples in pursuit of a single doctrinal repair. He reasoned that the Order was not broken by the Shattering ; it was always defective, contingent on gods 'no better than men,' and therefore reformable. He stands on the Altus viaduct, masked and unmoving, calculating the syllogism that will redeem creation.
'Rune discovered by the noble Goldmask. Used to restore the fractured Elden Ring when brandished by the Elden Lord. A rune of transcendental ideology which will attempt to perfect the Golden Order. The current imperfection of the Golden Order, or instability of ideology, can be blamed upon the fickleness of the gods no better than men. That is the fly in the ointment.' His conclusion is the Mending Rune of Perfect Order : a rune that, when brandished by an Elden Lord, removes the gods entirely from the Order's authorship. The Tarnished may receive it from him via Brother Corhyn, his last and only acolyte, and offer it to Marika's body in the throne. The resulting ending is the canon's coldest : 'Our seed will look back upon us, and recall. The Age of Order. The Age Absolute.' A perfected hierarchy, with no living deity at its peak, only the sealed corpse of one and the doctrine of a man whose disciples had long since left him.
