Frozen Armament and Glintstone Icecrag close on that same sentence and credit her with the same epithets: 'the old snow witch', 'the snowy crone'. What those texts put in her hands is specific: frost enchanted onto an armament held in the right hand, a cold mist whose range grows as the spell charges, a glintstone serving as a conduit for 'a mass of cold magic'. Cold sorcery elsewhere answers to other origins, 'Ice sorcery of the Town of Zamor', 'Sorcery of Adula, the Glintstone Dragon'. The game does not say where the crone lived; the text sets the encounter 'deep in the woods', with 'the young Ranni' for a pupil.

Beside the sorceries there are garments. The Snow Witch Hat is a 'witch's pointed hat, frigid and frozen through', 'of a style associated with practitioners of heretical sorcery' ; the Robe and the Skirt are 'in the color of snow'. Each was 'once worn by the snowy crone who the young Ranni encountered deep in the woods', and each carries the bond itself: 'She was a witch, and well versed in cold sorceries. It is said that the doll that houses Ranni's soul was modeled after her. That old witch was Ranni's secret mentor.' Renna is a name Ranni gives herself, 'I am the witch Renna' ; the game does not give it to her mentor. The garments speak of the crone in the past, 'once worn', and the sorceries too, 'said to have been used'. What continues is the cold: a moon 'encountered by a young Ranni, led by the hand of her mother, Rennala', and a ring 'symbolic of a cold oath', given 'by Lunar Princess Ranni to her consort', who 'would by rights earn the title of lord'.
