Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy
"Lord host, I could not be more content. I found knowledge, and then found someone. That someone was you. And now, inside you, here I am..."
Volcano Manor, already devoured
Rykard is the son of Rennala and Radagon, Praetor and Inquisitor of the Golden Order before becoming its most heretical enemy. Commander of a pitiless company of inquisitors described as "feared for his serpentine behavior," he deliberately committed the supreme blasphemy: allowing himself to be devoured by the ancient Serpent of Mount Gelmir, fusing with it to obtain eternal life through perpetual digestion. "Rykard took the form of a great serpent that he might devour, grow, and live eternally." He declares his intentions in the boss fight: "Join the serpent king's family... together we shall devour the gods!"
Volcano Manor, his residence run by Tanith, was a refuge for recusants, Tarnished and warriors who renounced the guidance of grace and hunted their own kind in organized resistance against the Erdtree. His philosophy was revolt against the injustice of the Order: "If the Erdtree and its gods would place us in such a station, we are prepared to raise the flag of resistance, even if it means heresy." The Blasphemous Blade, his iconic weapon, drains the life of enemies, an extension of his philosophy of perpetual devouring. Tanith, his devoted servant and likely lover, began devouring his serpentine corpse after his death: "Dear Rykard, please find purchase within me, I wish to be your serpent; your family. One day, let us devour the gods together." Bernahl (recusant at his service) reveals after his death: "Even he was prepared to meet a wretched end when he first took blasphemy unto his very flesh.

Blackguard (Dialogue)To put this weary world to rights... ... Lord Rykard... If this putrid field of death is what your blasphemy would bring, then I can no longer abide. No one can. ... I'll survive, I swear it. I'll soon be back at the Volcano Manor. ... Sublime, I tell you. The very first flower of Aeonia bloomed on this very spot.

Blasphemous ClawCan deflect the power of the Black Blade. On the night of the dire plot, Ranni rewarded Praetor Rykard with these traces. Should the coming trespass one day transpire, they would serve as a last-resort foil, allowing Rykard to challenge Maliketh the Black Blade, the black beast of Destined Death.
