The recusants' rallying cry

Tanith is the proprietress of Volcano Manor and Rykard's devoted servant, likely his lover. She recruits recusant Tarnished, those who renounce the guidance of grace, to hunt their own kind in organized resistance against the Erdtree. Her argument: "The Erdtree and its gods have reduced us to an unworthy station. We are prepared to raise the flag of resistance, even if it means heresy. Rise with us against the Erdtree." She adopted Zorayas (alias Rya the Scout), a serpentine child born of Rykard's blasphemous rites, raising her while hiding her origins, telling her she was "born by the grace of a glorious king." She provides the Tonic of Forgetfulness to Rya if the player chooses that path, erasing the painful revelation of her origins. After Rykard's death, Tanith remains in the Lord's Chamber and begins devouring his serpentine corpse: "Dear Rykard, please find purchase within me, I wish to be your serpent; your family. One day, let us devour the gods together." Her devotion transcends death, she wishes to transform into a serpent to perpetuate his legacy and remain close to him. Patches notes: "I've never seen a woman like that... even announcing those blasphemous ambitions, she still stands upright with pride.

Was I not... born by the grace of a king? Oh, it's you... Something that can never be accepted, not by men, nor serpents. Even Lady Tanith shouldn't accept me. You are very brave yourself. Not only a steady hand, but a steady heart, merciless, even to your own kind. Heaven knows what happened here, but Lady Tanith, and all the Tarnished champions, are gone. It feels rather quiet without them. But with you here, things will be just fine. I await Lady Tanith. I am her daughter, born by the grace of a great king. I do not wish to burden her, or cause concern. Do tread the path of valour. I'm certain that this is what Lady Tanith wishes. Please, stop, Brave Tarnished. You will only tire by striking this barrier. Revenge is not the answer. According to Lady Tanith... I've got the stuff of champions.
