'You can find crystal tears at the bases of Minor Erdtrees and elsewhere throughout the Lands Between. At sites of grace, you can mix two crystal tears in the Flask of Wondrous Physick. This will allow you to brew a concoction with the corresponding effects.' The Flask of Wondrous Physick is the canon's third flask, given alongside Crimson (HP) and Cerulean (FP) but not refilled by them. It must be brewed manually : the Tarnished mixes two Crystal Tears at any Site of Grace, the resulting concoction is consumed once per rest, and the effects depend entirely on which two tears were combined. There are 22 different tears, including HP-restore, FP-restore, status-cure, attack-buff, defense-buff, and the Opaline tear that grants temporary invulnerability. Tears form slowly at the bases of Minor Erdtrees and at certain other shrines.

The Crystal Tears are quietly the canon's least-explained artefact : they are NOT golden seeds (which scattered when the Ring shattered), they are tears that have been forming SLOWLY OVER AGES, meaning they predate the Shattering by centuries. Where the Erdtree wept, the tears formed. The Tarnished can find them long before any wound to the Erdtree was visible. The flask is, then, the canon's quiet acknowledgement that the Erdtree was already crying long before anyone noticed it had a reason to.
