Adula, the Glintstone Dragon

The lake-dragon who swore a knightly oath to Ranni's Dark Moon

'Sorcery of Adula, the Glintstone Dragon. Conjures a cold magic greatsword, then delivers a sweeping blow that launches a blade-like projectile of frost. This sorcery can be cast repeatedly. Adula, a devourer of sorcerers, was bested by Ranni and subsequently swore a knightly oath to her Dark Moon.' Adula is the canon's only example of a dragon-pact made between a sorcerer and a wild glintstone dragon. The lakes of Liurnia were Adula's hunting waters before Ranni's intervention ; sorcerers who left Raya Lucaria for solitude or research disappeared in the marsh, eaten and digested. Ranni found her, fought her with the cold dark moon and Carian magic, beat her, and then offered the same vow she would later offer Blaidd : serve no master but me, and I will spare what's left of you.

Adula is one of the four sworn vassals Ranni summons in her Rebirth incantation : the giant, the dragon, the beasts, Blaidd. The dragon's appearances at Ranni's command are sparse, she is not a wartime weapon, but her loyalty is real, and her moonblade-sorcery is the cleanest evidence of how a Carian princess can rewrite an ancient lineage's allegiance through nothing but contractual courtesy. Adula fights the Tarnished, in the canon's late stages, only because Ranni's questline asks for proof that the Tarnished can survive her household's strongest oaths. Her death there is the cost of Ranni's coronation as the Lord of the Frostmoon.
