Ranni's Shadow-Vassal · Adopted Brother

Blaidd the Half-Wolf
"Let's give them a show to remember, eh. Just don't you go dying on me. For Ranni's sake too."
Festival of Radahn
Blaidd is the shadow-vassal designated by the Two Fingers to accompany Ranni as Empyrean, per Greater Will tradition, each Empyrean receives such a vassal. A half-man, half-black-wolf, he grew up alongside Ranni from childhood as her "brother," playing and fighting in the Carian domains under Iji's watchful presence. His loyalty to Ranni is total and authentic, far exceeding his programmatic role as vassal. His tragedy: the Two Fingers created him as a faithful vassal with a secret clause, if the Empyrean resists the Greater Will, the vassal is "programmed" to go mad and become a curse upon her.
Iji understood this clause before Blaidd himself knew it and imprisoned him in an Evergaol to protect Ranni, betraying a close friend out of love for their shared mistress. Blaidd in the Evergaol doesn't understand: "I am of her very being. Her shadow. There's no chance I could bring her harm." Freed by the player, he rejoins Ranni and participates in her quest (Radahn Festival, search for Nokron). After Ranni's final departure on her dark path, Blaidd goes truly mad (the clause activates as designed). He is found howling and wandering near Ranni's Rise, attacking the player, his madness manifested exactly as predicted. His armor set describes "his dark fur and fierce gaze." Ranni says "I love you" to him upon her departure, knowing she was condemning him. Iji then leaves to find the mad Blaidd and apologize, knowing he will likely die facing him. "Blaidd, I hope you'll accept my apologies."

Merchant Kalé (Dialogue)If you happen to hear a wolf's howl, make this signal under the source. Oh, then you met Blaidd, did you? Wonderful. I'm glad I pointed you in his direction.
