◈ EXILED ORDER

The Banished Knights

Storm-cloaked exiles loyal to Godfrey, sheltered by Godrick because no one else would have them

'Thick, full set of armor covering the entire body. This armor was worn by knights who, whether by misfortune or misdeed, were forced to abandon their homes. These fierce warriors were each and all accomplished. Perhaps that is why, despite their territorial losses, they were still named knights.' The Banished Knights were Godfrey's personal corps, the warriors who rode beside the first Elden Lord through the Routing of the Ancient Dragons, the Storm Hawks of Stormveil, the war against the giants. When Marika stripped Godfrey of grace and exiled him across the fog, the Banished Knights were given the choice their lord had not been : cross with him into the badlands, or remain. Most crossed. Their grace, like his, was withdrawn ; they wandered the Land of Sand alongside Godfrey-now-Hoarah-Loux. Some, in time, drifted back to Stormveil, the home that had been theirs.

'Ashen remains in which spirits yet dwell. Use to summon the spirit of Engvall, the Banished Knight. One of the two knights dubbed the Wings of the Storm. Despite his banishment, he rejected the invitation to ride with Hoarah Loux.' Engvall and Oleg, the Wings of the Storm, are the canon-named Banished Knights : both rejected the invitation to ride into exile, and both, as a result, became the most miserable Banished of all, bannerless men with no lord to serve. Godrick the Grafted, the diluted-blood great-great-grandson of the original line, took them into his service at Stormveil because no one else would have them. The Banished Knights serving Godrick now is the canon's quiet tragedy : warriors who refused exile, defending a castle whose true lord they once served, on behalf of a usurper they tolerate because the only alternative is to be forgotten.
