Where a dragon's heart is consumed at the altar, and the eater's humanity begins to slip

Cathedral of Dragon Communion
'One of the incantations of Dragon Communion. Transforms caster into a wyrm to spew magma breath.' And then, in the same description: 'Those who have performed the Dragon Communion will find their humanity slowly slipping away. Once they fully succumb to their fate, they are left no more than wyrms that crawl the earth.' The game's place names hold a Cathedral of Dragon Communion and a Church of Dragon Communion. One is signposted from afar: 'Far to the east, you'll find the Cathedral of Dragon Communion. A place where draconic power gathers.' The other arrives as directions, from a companion in a dragon hunt: 'If you should find yourself overcome by hunger for the heart, yearning for its strength, then seek the decrepit church on the little island off the western coast.' What the pilgrim carries there is a heart 'seized by a dragon tracker', an organ that 'continues to beat vivaciously'. The rite is written as an instruction: 'Consume a dragon's heart at the altar to make its power yours.' The altar's prompt says it in older words: 'Offer ... … Dragon Hearts to make ... … thine own.' The dragon's strength becomes the pilgrim's, and what the pilgrim was before becomes a little less.
Some of these incantations carry a dragon's name. Borealis's Mist 'Channels the power of Borealis, the Freezing Fog' ; Ekzykes's Decay, 'Ekzykes, the Decaying' ; Smarag's Glintstone Breath, 'Smarag, the Glintstone Dragon'. Those share a shape, each turning the caster 'into a dragon to spew' its breath 'from above'. Theodorix's Magma bends the shape: 'Channels the power of the great wyrm Theodorix. Transforms caster into a great wyrm to spew a large volume of magma breath.' Other lines turn from the eaten to the eater: 'Those extraordinary individuals who perpetuate Dragon Communion are called the dragon-hearted.' Of the Magma Wyrms, once 'humans heroes who partook in dragon communion', it is said this was 'a grave transgression for which they were cursed to crawl the earth upon their bellies'. A priestess speaks of the rite at the Grand Altar as the purest form of Communion. Greyoll, 'the mother of all dragons, dwarfing all who stood before her like a looming mountain', lends her name to the plateau to Caelid's north, where 'none dare to enter'. The game does not say who tends her.
