Dragonbarrow

Plateau of Greyoll, untouched by Caelid's rot

Dragonbarrow is a high plateau jutting north of Caelid, a dry land of red grass and bone-white dragons that the Scarlet Rot, mysteriously, has never reached. At its centre sleeps Greyoll, the Elder Dragon: an enormous mother whose breath is mist, surrounded by her four still-living offspring. Greyoll is so old and so vast that the Tarnished cannot kill her in single combat without first wounding each of her children, who guard her in concentric rings.

The plateau was a sanctuary of the Dragon Communion, a pre-Erdtree faith whose acolytes still gather at the Bestial Sanctum in the eastern plateau. There Beast Clergyman Maliketh, in his earlier hounded form, taught the rites by which a worshipper consumes a dragon's heart to gain its powers. The Lichdragon Fortissax, Godwyn's sole companion in the Erdtree's deep root, came from a Dragonbarrow lineage; his absence is part of why the plateau is the most quiet land in the realm.

And so it is that the shape of the dragon has become symbolic of all manner of protections.
