The Great Jar of Caelid

Colossal warrior-jar at Dragonbarrow's edge, awarder of Champion's tokens

'A keepsake of the warrior jar Alexander. Found at the core of the dead flesh that once filled the great jar. The jars contain dregs inherited from those who came before. Thus are warriors passed from jar to jar, carrying dreams of greatness.' The Great Jar is the canon's largest jar-warrior, a colossal vessel sitting at the edge of Dragonbarrow, larger than any building, swaying slightly in the wind that crosses the plateau. He is the elder of the warrior-jar tradition that Iron Fist Alexander descends from : the principle that warriors who chose cremation into pottery rather than burial in earth carry the dregs of every prior occupant inside them.

'Scraps of flesh for filling great jars. Rancorous spirits cling to the pinkish-red, twitching meat. Throw at enemies to inflict damage. This is what becomes of the condemned, who get sliced up and stuffed into jars to become saints instead.' The Great Jar's three Champion Trials are the canon's strangest invitation. He sets three Tarnished invader-summons that the Tarnished must defeat in succession, and rewards the survivor with the Companion Jar Talisman, a small charm that reduces the cost of jar-throwing skills. The Bonny Village's gaol-jars are the same vessel-tradition writ smaller. The Great Jar is what those small ones eventually grow into, if their inhabitant warriors keep winning their fights long enough.
