Bonny Village is one of the Realm of Shadow's smallest and ugliest cult-sites, a cluster of huts on the outskirts of Belurat, presided over by the greater potentates, ritual butchers whose hereditary craft is the dismemberment of human bodies for jar-making. The Bonny Butchering Knife flavour text states the practice without euphemism : 'Weapon of the greater potentates of Bonny Village. An outsize butcher's cleaver used to dismember human bodies in the making of the great jars stored in the gaols.' The jars are the same kind that, in the base game, hold Alexander and his fellow warrior-jars ; the Hornsent's older jar-tradition is what the Lands Between later inherited and softened.
Their ritual gear is uniformly grotesque. The Caterpillar Mask description gives the doctrine : 'Grotesque mask constructed from countless solidified caterpillars. A ritual implement of the greater potentates of Bonny Village. Used to ward off thoughts of impurity, doubt, temptation, and other wickednesses one is vulnerable to while absorbed in divine ritual.' The greater potentates the Tarnished encounters wandering near and far, the Greater Potentate's Cookbooks describe one such pilgrim 'haunted by the grotesque practice of his village of birth, he stuffed great pots with all manner of things', are the dispersed survivors of a craft-village that the Erdtree did not eliminate but merely relocated. They are the canon's smallest, quietest reminder that the Hornsent's brutality was inherited, not imposed by Messmer.
