The Hornsent

Faith of the spiral, last keepers of the Crucible's older horns

The hornsent are a horned people, descendants of the Crucible's primal forms before the Erdtree pruned them into a single golden mould. They built spiral towers across the Realm of Shadow and worshipped the older horned gods whose names the Erdtree's faith no longer permits. They were a culture of inquisitorial scholarship: their priests bound captives into jars in pursuit of revelations, and their saints rose into divinity through the same vessel-tradition Marika may have come from. Their cruelty to outsiders, particularly to those who would later become Marika's own kin, was absolute.

Messmer's crusade reduced the hornsent to a remnant. The grandam at the centre of Belurat is the last of her elders; the wandering hornsent NPC the Tarnished may meet, the avenger, is the last warrior of his line. The hornsent's surviving incantations and weapons all carry the same theme: a beauty of horn and spiral that the Erdtree was not strong enough to allow into its new world without first burning the old one down.
