Dectus, Rold, and the medallions that conjoin the Lands Between vertically
The Grand Lifts

The Grand Lifts are the canon's vertical infrastructure : enormous stone elevators that connect the great regions to each other, each operated by a split medallion whose two halves the Tarnished must locate separately. Dectus connects Liurnia to the Altus Plateau. Rold connects Leyndell to the Mountaintops of the Giants. The Mountaintops connect to the Consecrated Snowfield through a SECOND form of Rold, hidden : the Haligtree Secret Medallion's halves are concealed in two corners of the world.

The forge of the flame of ruin is hidden in the snow.' The medallions are deliberately split because the lifts were never meant for free travel. Dectus's pieces sit at Fort Faroth in Caelid and Fort Haight in eastern Limgrave, two opposite corners of the early game's geography. Rold's pieces are scattered similarly, and the Haligtree's secret-version's pieces are hidden in Castle Sol's chapel and Albinauric Village's elder tree. Each lift, then, is a coronation gate. To use one is proof the Tarnished has earned the next layer of the Lands Between.
