The Tree Sentinels
"The knights of Leyndell once modelled themselves after the Tree Sentinels. Their purpose is to protect that which deserves protection, and thus the shield always comes before the sword."

The Tree Sentinels are the heaviest cavalry of the Erdtree's army, gold-plated knights on great horses, lance and halberd held in one hand, kite-shield in the other, holy gold etched into every plate of their armour. The Golden Halberd description states their order's name and weight: 'Weighty halberd forged of gold. Wielded by the Order of Tree Sentinels, heavily equipped knights. Deals holy damage. A masterfully crafted weapon that lives up to its heft, but is difficult for one of mere human strength to wield.' Mere human strength, the halberd's text notes, cannot wield such a weapon; whatever the order's knights are, they are no ordinary men.
Their oldest weapons preserve a stranger origin. The Dragon Greatclaw flavour text records what the Tree Sentinels of the deepest lineage carry: 'Weapon said to have been whittled from the claw of a great, ancient dragon, wielded by grotesque Tree Sentinels who yet serve the Erdtree. The claw is enwreathed with lightning, and tears through the dragons' feeble descendants with ease.' The misshapen Tree Sentinels who carry these claws did not fight the dragons before the Erdtree; they already served it. The Malformed Dragon armour records the turn: 'After the great ancient dragon Gransax attacked, the sentinels had an epiphany. The only way to truly protect the Erdtree was to become dragons themselves.' The Greatshield Talisman gives their motto: 'The knights of Leyndell once modelled themselves after the Tree Sentinels.
