The knights of Leyndell and the broader Erdtree represent the military backbone of the Golden Order, multiple distinct orders serving different functions. The Leyndell Knights (Leyndell Knight Helm, Armor, Gauntlets, Greaves) are the regular capital guard, clad in gold-trimmed plate, serving as the front-line defenders of the Royal Capital against Tarnished invaders during the Shattering. The Tree Sentinels are a distinct mounted order, heavily armored cavalry bearing the Erdtree's golden standard and wielding halberds or golden shields, operating as mobile enforcement of the Golden Order's borders (found at Leyndell's gates and the Altus Plateau). The Erdtree Sentinels and Erdtree Avatars are larger-scale spiritual manifestations of the Erdtree's defense mechanism, massive forms of golden foliage and root that patrol Minor Erdtrees across the Lands Between. The Crucible Knights (see their own entry) represent the oldest stratum. During the Shattering, many of these knights fell in the repeated defenses of Leyndell, their bodies remain throughout the capital. Morgott himself supplemented the defense by stacking heroes' corpses at the gates, described in the Historical Monuments.
