Crucible Knights

Eldest Knights · Guardians of the Primordial Golden Order

"Armor of the Crucible Knights who served Godfrey, the first Elden Lord. Holds the power of the crucible of life, the primordial form of the Erdtree."

From the Crucible Axe Armor description

The Crucible Knights are described as the eldest of the knights of the Erdtree, warriors who predate the current Golden Order and embody the crucible state of life, when all living beings were intertwined. Their armor (Crucible Axe Helm, Crucible Tree Helm, Crucible Armor set) is said to be from "the earliest days of the Erdtree" and depicts aspects of the crucible: branching growths, scales, and primordial organic forms. Unlike modern Golden Order knights who are defined by grace and hierarchy, Crucible Knights represent a more ancient and messy understanding of life, one where the distinctions between creatures had not yet fully formed. Their weapons are the Ordovis's Greatsword and Siluria's Tree, and their special incantations (Aspects of the Crucible: Tail, Horns, Breath) literally grow crucible appendages, draconic tails, horns, fire-breathing, during combat, manifesting the primordial fusion of forms. They are found guarding sacred sites throughout the Lands Between: the Stormveil throne room, the Auriza Hero's Grave, the Ordina Liturgical Town. Gatekeeper Gostoc mentions that "them crucible knights ain't like the rest", implying even among Godrick's garrison they were recognized as a different, older order.

NPC DialogueGatekeeper Gostoc (Dialogue)
By the way... Have you heard of the crucible knights? There's one by the name of Ordovis, and I must find him. He's an old hero of the Shattering, but there's a grudge out against him. I was fighting at your side. Against Ordovis of the Crucible. It was a revenge so sweet, fit to serve the very God of Vengeance. Heh... Against Ordovis, the Crucible Knight. Ah, you... Did you defeat Ordovis of the Crucible? I could sense it. The God of Vengeance surely smiled upon that battle. Maybe you're meant to be a Redeemer too... Did you defeat Ordovis, the Crucible Knight. Alright, then. I'm off to Stormveil Castle.
