Erdtree-sworn capital guards, undimmed by time

The Leyndell Knights
'Armor worn by knights sworn to defend the royal capital of Leyndell. Its left breast is emblazoned with a symbol of Erdtree Worship, said to have once been imbued with an incantation of protection.' The Leyndell Knights are the gold-armoured elite of the royal capital, sworn directly to the Erdtree's Order via Marika's then-living crown. They are not Banished Knights (whose oath was to Godfrey before his exile) and not Crucible Knights (whose oath predates the Erdtree itself). They are the Erdtree's own. Their breast-plates were once carved with a sigil that channeled an active incantation of protection ; by the time the Tarnished arrives, the sigils have gone dim because the priests who renewed them have died.
'Gauntlets worn by knights sworn to defend the royal capital of Leyndell. Time has yet to dull their luster.' What's striking about the Leyndell Knights is the canon's refusal to dim their armour despite their dimming faith. Their gauntlets and greaves are still polished. Their swords are still long. They are still standing in formation in the capital that has, by their own slow recognition, lost its capital-ness. The Leyndell Soldier Greaves are 'rust-worn and stained through unending conflict.' The Leyndell Knight Greaves' luster has yet to dull. The difference of polish between officer and soldier has outlived the difference of mission. They guard a city whose god has fled.
