The demi-humans are a small, simian race scattered across the foothills of Limgrave, the canyons of Caelid, and the cliffsides of the DLC peninsula ; they are reviled, hunted, and trapped for their pelts. The Demi-Human Queen's Staff records the only diplomatic act ever extended to them : a gift, from the Academy of Raya Lucaria, of a glintstone scepter their queens could wield without learning the academy's tongue. The gift's purpose, the description states, was 'to foster peace' ; its reception by the academy itself was a sneer.
'When bestowed with this weapon by their queen, the swordsmen swear to find the truth that lies at the end of the procession of stars.' In the Realm of Shadow, the queens' lineage is shown to be older and more troubled than Liurnia ever guessed. The Star-Lined Sword was forged by demi-human swordmasters who took the academy's sorcery and made it their own ; the Demi-Human Swordsman Yosh ash records that 'Onze, a master swordsman who devoted himself to the Star-Lined Sword, realized that only ruin awaited at the end of the procession of stars, and imprisoned himself in order to forestall it.' The queens, Maggie, Margot, Marigga, Gilika, preside over a people whose science the academy stole, sneered at, and could not undo.
