The Godskin Nobles are the elder branch of the Apostle order, the apostles old enough to have crossed the line from human into something else. The canon's quietest comparison is to the Crucible itself : the Nobles' inhuman physiology, the seven-face aprons, the layered fat that swells their bodies, are described as not unlike the primordial Erdtree-state in which all life was indistinguishable.

The Nobles are the survivors of that sealing : ancient enough to have personally received the Queen's embrace, slow-bodied enough to have lasted the centuries since, still smiling under their seven-face aprons in the dungeons where the canon stores its unsuccessful theologies. Their black flame, after the Sealing, is what they have left of their goddess.
