The Death of Godwyn the Golden
Godwyn the Golden defeated the ancient dragon Fortissax and befriended his fallen foe, an event that gave rise to the ancient dragon cult in the capital. The monument raised to that campaign keeps the same order of things: Godwyn the Golden fought to the last, earning the friendship of dread Fortissax. Then bearers of Black Knives stole into the dark. The Rune of Death was stolen, and the demigods began to fall, starting with Godwyn the Golden. The daggers were oddly misshapen, and a ritual performed on them had imbued the blades with the power of that stolen rune. Queen Marika was driven to the brink.
What the knives killed was not all of him. He is the Prince of Death now, he who used to be called Godwyn, First Dead of the demigods, and it is said he lies buried deep under the capital, at the Erdtree's roots. Fortissax kept faith with him past the end: after Godwyn became the Prince of Death, the ancient dragon fought long and hard against the Death within its companion, and victory was never achieved. A sword forged to commemorate that death carries the whole of it in a single line, the humble prayer of a young boy, O brother, lord brother, please die a true death. Fia gestates the rune that would grant it, and the Order it would found is named without euphemism: the Golden Order was created by confining Destined Death, so this new Order will be one of Death restored.

Black KnifeDagger once belonging to one of the assassins who murdered Godwyn the Golden on the Night of the Black Knives. A ritual performed on the oddly misshapen blade imbued it with the power of the stolen Rune of Death.
