The Oracle Envoys
'Ashen remains in which spirits yet dwell. Use to summon the spirits of four Oracle Envoys. Spirits of a monstrous band of musicians who employ sacred arts. It is said that when Oracle Envoys appear, playing their pipes, they do so to herald the arrival of a new god, or a new age.' The Oracle Envoys are the canon's heralds, bulbous, mottled, monstrous-looking creatures who carry pipes and trumpet around the great Erdtree-thresholds whenever the cosmic order is about to change. They are first encountered scattered through the Mountaintops of the Giants and at the Capital's Forbidden Lands, where the Tarnished's approach to becoming Elden Lord disturbs whatever calendar the Envoys are reading.
'Shield featuring a vividly painted twinbird. The twinbird is said to be the envoy of an outer god, and mother of the Deathbirds. At dwindling levels of HP, this shield slightly boosts both attack and defense.' The canon links them, obliquely, to the Outer Gods. The Twinbird is described as 'envoy of an outer god,' mother of the Deathbirds, and the Oracle Envoys' role as heralds suggests the same kind of outer-god-adjacent function. Whose new age they trumpet is never specified. The Tarnished's arrival sends them across the Mountaintops in slow, hopping circles, as if the band of pipers had been waiting since the Shattering for a god to be born and now, finally, was rehearsing.
