◈ ASSASSIN

Alecto, the Black Knife Ringleader

Numen mother of the assassins, the hand that organised the Plot

Alecto is the architect of the Night of the Black Knives, the Numen woman whom Ranni recruited to organise the assassinations the plot required. The Black Knife Tiche Spirit Ash description names Alecto explicitly through her daughter's death : 'She was the daughter of the Black Knife Ringleader, Alecto, and was killed protecting her mother during their flight from the royal capital.' The Black Knife Armor entry establishes the order's composition : 'The assassins that carried out the deeds of the Night of the Black Knives were all women, and rumored to be Numen, kin of the queen herself.' Alecto, the ringleader, is necessarily kin of Marika.

Her flight from the Capital is the canon's quietest tragedy. After the Plot succeeded, Godwyn slain, the Rune of Death released, the Capital began to hunt the assassins ; their kinship to Marika protected them only briefly. Alecto and Tiche fled south together. Tiche died protecting her mother on the road. Alecto reached the Mountaintops of the Giants, where the Ringleader's Evergaol holds her still : a stasis-prison the Capital built for an assassin it could neither pardon nor execute. The Tarnished can fight her there, finishing what Marika would not. The Black Knife she carries is the one that struck Godwyn.
