◈ NPC

Castellan Edgar

Father of Irina, broken survivor of Castle Morne, sword-collecting revenger

'The siege of Castle Morne A lone hero fights for his vengeance Only to fall at the hand of Lord Godfrey.' The Historical Monument at Castle Morne records two sieges with the same wording. The first, ages ago, was Godfrey's, when the Lord of the Hoarah Loux line subdued the Misbegotten captives of Morne and earned the place its name. The second is the canon's recurring nightmare : the Misbegotten of Morne rose against their human keepers, slaughtered the household, and left Castellan Edgar, a soft-spoken old man, alive only because his daughter Irina had already left for Limgrave to call for help.

'The storied sword of Castle Morne. A revenger's weapon, it is burdened with oceans of anger and regret. One of the legendary armaments. A lone surviving champion from a country now vanished was so determined to continue fighting that he claimed the swords of an entire clan of warriors.' Edgar finds Irina's body on the road north, slain by the same Leonine Misbegotten he was sent to subdue, and the second part of the canon begins. He returns to Morne, takes the Grafted Blade Greatsword (the storied weapon of Castle Morne, a sword that has accumulated the swords of an entire dead clan), and turns invader. He follows the canonical path of all Volcano Manor recusants : armoured in his own grief, hunting Tarnished he does not know on contracts he does not read, dying at last in a duel with one of them. The lone surviving champion of a country now vanished was always Edgar's mirror.
