The Cleanrot Knights are the personal guard of Malenia, Blade of Miquella, an elite order of warriors clad in pure gold armor who accompanied her on the Southward March during the Shattering. Their name is paradoxical: they carry the Scarlet Rot as a banner while remaining "clean" of its full corruption, protected by their devotion to Malenia and by the unalloyed nature of their faith. Their armor (Cleanrot Helm, Cleanrot Armor, Cleanrot Gauntlets, Cleanrot Greaves) is described as plate of gold worn by Malenia's warrior maidens, forged to honor the goddess they served. They fought through Caelid alongside Malenia and witnessed the Scarlet Aeonia explosion. After Malenia fell into her long sleep, the Cleanrot Knights remained as guardians of the Haligtree and Elphael, defending the approaches to their sleeping goddess. Two weapon types were standard issue: the Cleanrot Spear (ranged thrust combat, honoring precision) and the Halo Scythe (sweeping attacks, carrying golden rot magic). Their sickle techniques channel Malenia's power. Despite their prolonged exposure to the Scarlet Rot environment of Caelid and later Elphael, many retained their martial discipline and humanity, a testament to the strength of their devotion.
