Finger Maidens are women designated by the Two Fingers to serve individual Tarnished, channeling runes into strength (serving as a "level-up" mechanism) and maintaining the spiritual connection to the Golden Order's guidance. Varré's opening jibe, "you're maidenless, aren't you?", establishes that without a Finger Maiden, a Tarnished cannot channel their accumulated runes into growth, leaving them effectively stranded. Melina performs this function for the player despite explicitly not being an official Finger Maiden ("I'm no Finger Maiden. I have no such duty"). The blood of a Finger Maiden is used by Varré in his initiation rite (soaking a cloth in a maiden's blood at Church of Inhibition or Church of Vows). The Three Fingers' equivalent are their own Finger Maidens, Hyetta being the player's guide toward the Frenzied Flame, eating Shabriri Grapes (eyeballs) as her form of spiritual sustenance. Finger Readers (like Enia at Roundtable Hold) are a distinct role: older women who physically touch and interpret the Two Fingers' communication, translating divine gesture into spoken guidance. Enia reads the Remembrances of slain demigods and exchanges them for their weapons and spells.
