Merchant Kalé

First merchant of the Lands Between, son of the Great Caravan's exile

'Merchant Kalé's bell bearing, found upon his perished flesh. Offer to the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold to gain access to new items.' Kalé is the first living merchant the Tarnished meets, seated on the steps of the ruined Church of Elleh in Limgrave, calling cheerfully to anyone who passes. He sells torches, crafting kits, the Lazuli Glintstone Sword and the iron cleaver of his line ; he teaches the Tarnished to craft. His friendliness is unusual. The other Nomadic Merchants of the canon are silent, hostile, or already dead.

'Chapeau of the nomadic merchants. Decorated with tiny gems in a wide spectrum of colors. These merchants once thrived as the Great Caravan, but after being accused of heretical beliefs, their entire clan was rounded up and buried alive far underground. Then, they chanted a curse of despair, and summoned the flame of frenzy.' Kalé's clan was the Great Caravan, an itinerant trade-confederation accused of heresy and sentenced to mass live burial. From within the earth they cursed the world that buried them and called the Frenzied Flame down upon it. The Tarnished's friendly first merchant is the only descendant who still smiles. When he dies, his bell-bearing passes to the Twin Maidens at the Roundtable, and his iron cleaver becomes a relic of a smile that the rest of the caravan never managed.
