◈ SPIRIT

Lhutel the Headless

Mausoleum knight who chose Death itself to keep watch on a soulless demigod

'Legendary ashen remains. Use to summon the spirit of Lhutel the Headless. Spirit of a headless knight who leads the mausoleum soldiers. Wields a lance enrobed in Death and hurls spectral lances at foes. Lhutel sacrificed her life so that in Death she could continue to protect a soulless demigod until their revival, earning her the hero's honor of Erdtree Burial.' Lhutel is one of the canon's quietest acts of devotion. The Walking Mausoleums of the Lands Between were built to revive demigods whose bodies remained but whose souls had perished, Godwyn most prominently, his soul slain by Maliketh's Black Blade on the Night of the Black Knives. Each mausoleum is staffed by a captain of the dead and a column of mausoleum soldiers, walking forever in the slow procession of resurrection.

'Armor worn by headless knights who endlessly guard the Wandering Mausoleum. The wing-shaped ornaments on its back evoke the Deathbird. A self-inflicted curse that ties the spirits of these loyal knights to the land, having willingly beheaded themselves so that they may serve their masters in death.' Lhutel chose to die so that, undying, she could keep watch on a single demigod's body until the rite was completed. She traded her continuing life for the ability to be useful long after every other knight had stopped existing. Her reward was Erdtree Burial, the highest honour the Order grants, and she carries it into Death itself, leading the mausoleum soldiers from the front. The Spirit Ash the Tarnished may summon her with is a copy of that vigil. She fights alongside the Tarnished against demigods her order was built to revive, and asks no question about the contradiction.
