The Wandering Mausoleums

Walking tombs of demigods, repositories of remembrance

The Wandering Mausoleums are great cathedral-bells perched on slow stone legs, drifting across the Lands Between with no apparent destination. They are tombs : in their hollow chambers lie the bodies of demigods or their lesser kin, kept preserved while the mausoleum walks. The Mausoleum Knights who escort each one were Numen royal guards in life, sworn to walk forever beside their charges.

Each mausoleum carries a single function for the Tarnished : ringing the great bell at its heart twice respites the body of a demigod, allowing the Tarnished to duplicate the Remembrance they hold. Some mausoleums are sealed against bell-ringing, those carry bodies that ought never to be respited, like Godwyn's, whose corruption would only spread further. The Walking Mausoleum of the Wailing Dunes, the Crowned Mausoleum on the Altus Plateau, and the Domed Mausoleum on the Forbidden Lands gorge are the most prominent.

ArmorMausoleum Knight Armor

Armor worn by headless knights who endlessly guard the Wandering Mausoleum. The wing-shaped ornaments on its back evoke the Deathbird. A self-inflicted curse that ties the spirits of these loyal knights to the land, having willingly beheaded themselves so that they may serve their masters in death.

Item / MiscEclipse Crest Greatshield

Metal greatshield painted with a sun in eclipse. Carried by the headless mausoleum knights. The eclipsed sun, drained of color, is the protective star of soulless demigods. It aids the mausoleum knights by keeping Destined Death at bay.
