The Royal Revenants are one of the canon's most disturbing creatures: enormous, low-crawling masses of corpse-flesh, surfacing beneath the Kingsrealm Ruins of Liurnia, around Castle Sol in the Mountaintops, and in the halls of Elphael. Each Revenant is one body in shape but many in flesh: multiple sets of arms on a single crawling frame. The merchant's note is all the canon offers by way of origin, 'royal' revenants, and 'followers', all cursed; who they were in life, the game never says.

'Healing powers will harm rather than mend.' The Revenants' curse-of-healing is the canon's only documented inversion of the Erdtree's golden gift: healing incantations, the Order's own mercy, damage these creatures. Why, the canon never explains; the nomadic merchant's note says only that they are cursed, and it is the sole diegetic warning. The Tarnished encounters Revenants without dialogue, without companions, without a remembrance to take. Just the mute knowledge that something in this world is so wrong that mending it hurts it.
