◈ CORPSE-MONSTERThe Royal Revenants
Many-armed corpse-clusters of demigods' courts, cursed against healing

The Royal Revenants
'Note sold by a nomadic merchant imparting knowledge in brief. The crawling royal revenants and their followers are all cursed. Healing powers will harm rather than mend.' The Royal Revenants are one of the canon's most disturbing creatures : enormous, low-crawling masses of stitched-together demigod-court corpses, surfacing in the catacombs of Liurnia and the Mountaintops where the courtiers of broken princes were buried in mass graves. Each Revenant is one body in shape but many in flesh : multiple sets of arms, multiple heads cycled out of view, voices in the same mouth that don't agree. They are the canon's Frankenstein, made not by science but by collective unwilling resurrection, the residue of demigod-court grief that had nowhere to go.
'Healing powers will harm rather than mend.' The Revenants' curse-of-healing is the canon's only documented inversion of the Erdtree's golden gift. Holy incantations, golden flasks, the laying-on-of-hands : all DAMAGE these creatures. They were so contaminated by Death, the same Death that should not have leaked, sealed inside Maliketh, that the Order's healing has become poison. The nomadic merchant's note is the only diegetic warning. The Tarnished encounters Revenants without dialogue, without companions, without a remembrance to take. Just the mute knowledge that some shape of grief, in this world, has refused to lie down for so long that its anatomy has changed.
Note sold by a nomadic merchant imparting knowledge in brief. "The crawling royal revenants and their followers are all cursed. Healing powers will harm rather than mend."
