Goldmask
'A mask designed to resemble a blazing golden halo. Created and left behind by Lord Goldmask, a staunch pursuer of Golden Order fundamentalism. Strengthens Golden Order incantations.' Goldmask is a silent ascetic who came to the Lands Between alone to contemplate the Golden Order: a fundamentalist who renounced speech and wears a featureless gold halo over his face. He is named in the canon's intro narration as one of the lord-candidates, alongside Hoarah Loux, Fia, the Dung Eater, and Gideon Ofnir. His project is theological. He believes the Golden Order's failure was not its principles but its execution: a flaw at the very heart of the Elden Ring itself, proof, as the Mending Rune he will discover puts it, of 'the fickleness of the gods no better than men.'
'Bracelets made in the image of Erdtree branches. Minimal adornments made by Lord Goldmask's disciples. Those disciples have long since left him.' Goldmask's questline is the canon's most demanding: the Tarnished must follow him from Altus Plateau, guide Brother Corhyn, a Roundtable cleric who seeks Goldmask's instruction, to his master's side, and bring Goldmask the revelation he cannot voice: that Radagon is Marika. From this epiphany Goldmask derives the Mending Rune of Perfect Order, the only ending that does not change the Order's essence, but corrects it. Goldmask dies of contemplation, mid-prayer, his hand stretched toward the Erdtree he never quite reaches. The Mending Rune lingers behind him as the only artefact in the canon a god can wear without becoming someone else.
