Sir Gideon Ofnir, the All-Knowing

Leader of the Roundtable Hold, who trades in what other Tarnished find

Gideon Ofnir is the Tarnished's host at the Roundtable Hold, and his foster daughter Nepheli places him: 'Father is leader of the Roundtable.' The Intro Narration names him among the rivals: 'And Sir Gideon Ofnir, the All-knowing.' He states his purpose himself: 'As a Tarnished who wishes to stand before the Elden Ring and become Elden Lord, I am accumulating knowledge. To be all-knowing.' His method is a brokerage: 'If you should learn anything of these matters, I'll trade your findings for a hidden treasure, or a long-lost rite, known only to me.' Of Nepheli, whom he took in, he adds: 'her youthful credulity suited my purposes. So I put her to work.' Great Runes reach him as intelligence: 'We of the Roundtable know the location of five of them, including the one you defeated.' Taught an incantation by the Two Fingers, he judges them spent: they 'lost their purpose a long, long time ago.'

His silent companion is a small canon in itself. The Royal Remains Armor records the bodyguard: 'Worn by the unspeaking adherent of Sir Gideon the All-Knowing.' On the bones it speaks with a hedge, 'It is said that the bones belong to an ancient lord', and 'the soulless king. The lord of the lost and desperate, who was known as Ensha.' His word on Ensha comes after the man's death: 'Ensha got rather ahead of himself, it seems. As his master, I'd like to express my regret.' His own armour sets the terms: 'the search for knowledge is unending. But when Gideon glimpsed into the will of Queen Marika, he shuddered in fear. At the end that should not be.' At the Erdtree he offers a verdict rather than an anointing: 'I commend your spirit, but alas, none shall take the throne. Queen Marika has high hopes for us. That we continue to struggle. Unto eternity.' His dying words hold to it: 'A Tarnished cannot become a Lord. Not even you.'
