Sir Gideon Ofnir, the All-Knowing

Steward of the Roundtable Hold, master of borrowed knowledge

Gideon Ofnir is the Tarnished's host at the Roundtable Hold, chartered by the Two Fingers to instruct, advise, and ultimately appraise every Tarnished who returns to the Hold with a Great Rune in hand. The Intro Narration names him among the rivals : 'And Sir Gideon Ofnir, the All-knowing.' His method is exhaustive, he hires Tarnished proxies to challenge demigods so he can read their wounds afterward, dispatches Bernahl, Diallos, and others on errands whose outcomes he files in the great library above the Hold. He never fights the demigods himself ; the only Great Rune he holds is the one Godrick eventually owes him for letting Roderika live.

His silent companion is a small canon in itself. The Royal Remains Armor description records Gideon's bodyguard : 'Worn by the unspeaking adherent of Sir Gideon the All-Knowing. The bones belong to an ancient lord, the soulless king. The lord of the lost and desperate, who was known as Ensha.' Ensha is the bones of a lost-king cult that predates the Erdtree, and Gideon, who ought to know better, keeps them at his side as a quiet hedge. By the end-game, Gideon has read so many Tarnished he has, in his own measure, become a god of catalogues. He attacks the Tarnished at the Erdtree because he has finished cataloguing and concluded that the Tarnished, alone, can finish what no one else has.

Look there. The Fingers shudder with exuberance. 'Fine work, brave Tarnished. The Greater Will is pleased.' 'You have earned the right to become Elden Lord.' The Fingers expect as much from you as they do young Gideon.
