Kenneth Haight

Castellan-in-exile of Fort Haight, claimant to a throne of mud

'Right half of a split medallion depicting the Erdtree. Brandishing the medallion with both halves conjoined will activate the Grand Lift of Dectus, connecting the Altus Plateau to Liurnia. The left half is said to reside in the coastal Fort Haight to the far west.' Kenneth Haight is the dispossessed lord of Fort Haight, a coastal redoubt at the southeast edge of Limgrave that holds the right half of the Dectus Medallion, the key to the great lift that connects the lower Lands to the Altus Plateau. The fort fell to man-serpents from Mt. Gelmir during the Shattering. Kenneth was reduced to standing on a roadside ruin, helmet polished, calling out to passing Tarnished for vassal service.

'Mask in the image of a white-haired young noble. Customarily worn by the head of House Marais. Increases arcane. The Marais family has a dual history spanning generations, serving as both executioners and castellans of the Shaded Castle. This mask bears the likeness of the first of their line.' The castellan tradition in the canon is uneasy : the Marais line keeps the Shaded Castle by inheriting the executioner's role with it. Kenneth keeps Fort Haight by losing it. When Nepheli Loux, a Banished Knight's daughter and his cousin in lineage, helps him reclaim the fort, his ambition expands : he wishes to be installed as Lord of Limgrave under the new Elden Lord. He waits at the fort with rehearsed speeches. The Tarnished may grant him the title or refuse him ; either way, the Lands Between continue to ignore the small dignity of a castellan whose castle is a yard of broken masonry.
