Lionel the Lionhearted is the canon's quietest act of grace : a chivalrous knight who, encountering the exiled Deathbed Companion Fia in the wilderness, took her in as his daughter despite no blood relation. Fia had been driven from her home country for the heretical practice of comforting the dying with her body ; the Erdtree's institutional purification of Death made her vocation a crime. Lionel asked her name, listened to her story, and named himself her father from that day forward. He gave her a home in his own halls, defended her, and never asked her to renounce her work.

The canon's institutional family relationships are all betrayals. Lionel is the only counterexample : a man who chose a daughter who needed one, and held her against the Order's verdict. By the time the Tarnished arrives, Lionel is dead, his armor is found in the Roundtable's smithy. Fia keeps it close.
