The Cathedral of Manus Metyr
The Cathedral of Manus Metyr is the great sorcery-cathedral perched at the eastern edge of Scadu Altus, where Count Ymir presides as High Priest. Its name, 'Hand of Mother' in the older tongue the Hornsent and the Realm of Shadow's scholars share, encodes its primary occupant : Metyr herself, the Mother of Fingers, an enormous broken many-fingered being who descends through the cathedral's upper galleries. The Glintslab Firefly description, sold to Tarnished travellers, locates the cathedral on the realm's quiet sorcery-map : 'Glintstone firefly improved by selective breeding. Mainly found near Manus Metyr. The glintstone that produces its light has become freakishly enlarged, while the span of its life is as brief as a whisper.'
Ymir's interventions in the world from this cathedral are conducted through hanging bells. The Hole-Laden Necklace flavour text records Ymir's teaching about how the bells work : 'A pale-blue necklace made from a thin, elongated stone hollowed out from the inside. Use at a hallowed ruin to sound a hanging bell. It was a teaching of Count Ymir. The fate of the one who sounds the hanging bell will be guided by the stars.' To sound a bell is to step out of the Greater Will's chosen Order and into the alternate cosmology Ymir is inventing, the one in which Metyr will be remade as a true mother. The Tarnished sounds a half-dozen of these bells across the Realm of Shadow at Ymir's bidding, then must decide whether the priest's redemption is a salvation or a heresy.
