Common Omen children, born under the Erdtree's grace with the same ancient horns that mark all Omen as cursed, have their horns surgically excised at birth, the procedure is painful, often fatal, and the survivors usually become the canon's sewer-Omen population. Royal Omen children receive a different protocol : the horns are not removed, the child is sealed alive in a private chamber beneath the palace, and the family conducts a quiet bereavement that the realm at large is never told about.
