The Tarnished's victory over Marika is not a single ending. Take the plain prompt, Mend the Elden Ring, and the crowning hails the new Elden Lord, steward of a fracturing world, and so beginneth the age of fracture. The Goldmask ending, the Age of Order, is sealed with the Mending Rune of Perfect Order, a rune of transcendental ideology which will attempt to perfect the Golden Order. The Fia ending, the Age of the Duskborn, uses the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince, formed of the two hallowbrand half-wheels combined, the brand that scored Godwyn's flesh, so that this new Order will be one of Death restored. The Dung Eater ending, the Blessing of Despair, brandishes the loathsome Mending Rune of the Fell Curse, whose reviled curse will last eternally, and under which the world's children, grandchildren, and every generation hence will be its pustules.

Two more paths turn from gold. The Frenzied Flame ending answers the Three Fingers: the Tarnished inherits the frenzied flame and bears the mark of the Lord of Frenzied Flame, though Melina holds that such a lord is no lord at all, when the land they preside over is lifeless. Ranni offers an order not of gold, but the stars and moon of the chill night, keeping life, souls, and order at a great remove until the certainties of sight, emotion, faith, and touch all become impossibilities; now cometh the age of the stars, a thousand year voyage under the wisdom of the Moon. Several of the endings open on the same refrain: our seed will look back upon us, and recall. The closing narration adds that the fallen leaves tell a story, of how a Tarnished, of no renown, became Elden Lord, and which story it is depends on the rune the Elden Lord brandishes.
