◈ ORDERThe Soldiers of Godrick
What remains of the army that fled the royal capital of the Erdtree, now loyal to Godrick, Lord of Stormveil

The Soldiers of Godrick
'Armor worn by soldiers loyal to Godrick the Grafted. The surcoat depicts the distant Erdtree and the beast regent, an emblem of the golden lineage. Both are symbols of glory now past.' The Soldiers of Godrick are, in the game's own words, a remnant: their Spirit Ash calls them 'what remains of the army that fled the royal capital of the Erdtree', and that description does not say what road they took, nor when. They serve a lord the game's dialogue names 'Godrick the Grafted, Lord of Stormveil', whose 'castle lies upon the cliff to Limgrave's northwest', and whose divine blood dialogue elsewhere calls 'sorely diluted' : 'but a distant relation... The runt of the litter.' The tree on their surcoat is the one the armor itself calls distant; the beast beside it is named elsewhere as Serosh, 'aged counselor who guides the golden lineage', of whom the Godfrey Icon says 'he took the Beast Regent Serosh upon on his back to suppress the ceaseless lust for battle that raged within'. Both, the armor says, are symbols of glory now past.
'Ashen remains in which spirits yet dwell. Use to summon the spirits of two of Godrick's soldiers. A duo of spirits, consisting of a wielder of devastating charged hammer attacks in the vanguard and a crossbowman bringing up the rear. The soldiers who serve Godrick the Grafted are what remains of the army that fled the royal capital of the Erdtree.' The description records what they became, not where they fell. Set beside it, the Leyndell Soldier Ashes describe spirits 'each equipped with a spear and greatshield' who 'fight their battles defensively', and who, 'During the Shattering, they were the ramparts that fortified the royal capital.' whose own map still reports 'the inner wall remains unbreached to this day'. Read together, the two entries speak of one capital and two fates. The pair raised from Godrick's ashes puts a charged hammer in the vanguard and a crossbow at the rear; the gear that goes with them is 'rust-worn and stained through unending conflict', and the shields the game gives Stormveil's soldiers are, 'much like the castle', 'marred by mottling and thorns', an affliction 'some say' comes from 'the curse of grafting'. Summoned by the Tarnished, they fight under the tree and the beast still stitched on their coats.
