Azur and Lusat are the two grandmasters whose departures broke Raya Lucaria. The Azur's Glintstone Robe description records what their absence meant for the academy's hierarchy: 'A robe reserved for grand masters at the Academy of Raya Lucaria. Corroded by blue-green glintstones. Since the grand masters Azur and Lusat were driven from the academy, no one has achieved their formerly-held rank.' Their respective lineages, the Karolos Conspectus and the Olivinus Conspectus, are still studied, but no living scholar has been promoted to the rank Azur and Lusat held when they were exiled together.
What expelled them was the same thing they had together discovered: primeval current sorcery, a glintstone craft so ambitious it required the practitioner to grow a glintstone crown over their own brain and skull. The Azur's Glintstone Crown description records the cost of the technique: 'Crown of Azur, primeval current sorcerer, set with a prominent blue-green glintstone. This crown replaced Azur's brain and skull altogether.' Lusat's crown is identical in function: the entire mind subsumed into glintstone. The academy considered this heresy; both sorcerers were driven out and pursued separately. Azur retreated to Mt. Gelmir, where he still sits, gazing at the heavens. The Comet Azur description records what he had seen: 'When Azur glimpsed into the primeval current, he saw darkness. He was left both bewitched and fearful of the abyss.' Lusat returned to his home, Sellia in the eastern Caelid Wilds, and languished behind a seal until Sellen sent the Tarnished with a glintstone key to free him. Sellen's quest is, in the canon's quiet way, the next generation's attempt to undo a discipline her masters paid their bodies to perfect.
