Sellen is the exiled sorceress of Raya Lucaria, the most promising in the Academy's history, expelled under the epithet "Graven Witch" for conducting "unthinkable experiments on certain sorcerers" (fusing them into Graven Masses, masses of merged faces visible throughout the Academy). Her obsession: restore the primal current of glintstone sorcery, a magical art freed from earthly taboos, open to the most extreme possibilities, rid of "the toothless pedantry of the Carian royal family." She was the first disciple of Master Azur and Master Lusat, two founding sorcerers also banished from the Academy. Shackled by Academy restraints despite her exile, her "body" at Witchbane Ruins is only a projection, her true body is hidden in ruins near the Church of Marika in the Weeping Peninsula. She can transfer her body by moving her Primal Glintstone (her compressed essence). Her completed questline: takes control of the Academy, physically expels Rennala from the Grand Library (reducing her to a lumpy mass), restores the primal current so "the fallen children of the stars might shine once more." Jerren, the Witch-Hunter dispatched by the Carians, pursued her to execute an old death-promise.
