Rellana was a Carian princess and the younger sister of Rennala, head of the royal family of Caria, who was said to have given her a gift of lustrous black hair when she renounced her lineage to chase after Messmer. In their childhood, she and her elder sister met the twin moons that would become her sorcery, overlapping as though nestled against one another. Her blades keep the trace of the choice she made: two swords as a single armament, and when two-handed, a straight sword engraved with golden flame carried in the left hand. Here, and here alone, were moon and fire ever together.

She disavowed her birthright and chose to stand at Messmer's side, knowing full well that not even the brilliance of the moon could grant him succor, and before long she became known as the Sword of Messmer. Count Ymir instructed her in the sorcerous arts, though he abandoned his allegiance to the moon, calling it merely the closest of the celestial bodies. Her Carian thrusting shield was borne 'during her sole entry into ritual combat', a demonstration of fidelity to the Erdtree, and her cameo remembers those who left their homelands to serve her: 'By your leave, we will accompany you wherever your lunar vessel takes you.' The Tarnished meets her at the summit of Castle Ensis, where she fights with both swords drawn beneath twin moons of her own making, and her remembrance is hewn into the Scadutree, its namesake's power waiting on the Finger Reader.
