The Bloody Fingers and Recusants are two distinct but related categories of Tarnished who renounce the guidance of grace and pursue their own agendas through violence. Bloody Fingers are Tarnished who have been marked by Mohg's blood curse, their grace corrupted into a red, blood-stained form. They invade other Tarnished's worlds as an act of devotion to Mohg, Lord of Blood, building toward the Mohgwyn Dynasty. Varré serves as their primary recruiter. Hunter Tarnished (those who answer the calls for rescue against Bloody Finger invaders) serve as the counter-force. The Recusants are a distinct order under Volcano Manor's ideology, they reject the Golden Order and its guidance on philosophical grounds, hunting their own kind as a form of organized resistance. Bernahl, Patches (briefly), Diallos, and Rya the Scout all interact with the Recusant network. The two groups overlap: some recusants become Bloody Fingers, and both reject the Two Fingers' authority. The Furlcalling Finger Remedy allows Tarnished to see invasion signs; the Bloody Finger item allows repeated invasion. The finger mythology is significant: Fingers (Two, Three, Bloody) are a consistent cosmic motif, the Two Fingers represent divine order, the Three Fingers represent chaos, and Bloody Fingers represent a perversion of the original grace.
